Heat Pumps
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government scheme that reduces the upfront cost of installing an eligible heat pump in properties across England and Wales.
Current support includes:
- £7,500 towards an air source or ground source heat pump
- £9,000 towards an eligible air source or ground source heat pump where the existing heating system uses oil or LPG, available until 31 March 2027
- £2,500 towards an eligible air-to-air heat pump installed in a residential property
Eligibility
One BUS grant can normally be claimed per property. For an existing property, the new system must replace an eligible fossil-fuel or electric heating system. The grant cannot be used to replace an existing low-carbon heating system or towards a hybrid installation that retains a fossil-fuel boiler as part of the new heating system. Most new-build properties are excluded, although a self-build funded by the property owner and intended as their own home may qualify.
How to Apply for the BUS Grant
The BUS is installer-led, so homeowners do not apply for or reclaim the grant themselves. Ofgem will contact the property owner directly to confirm consent, verify their identity and, where necessary, request supporting evidence.
All grants remain subject to the property, proposed system and installation meeting the scheme requirements, and to final approval by Ofgem.

OZEV Grant
The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) provides grants towards EV chargepoint installations for certain residents, landlords and workplaces. These grants are not currently available to every homeowner with private off-street parking.
Current support includes:
- Renters and people who own and live in a flat may receive 75% of the purchase and installation cost, up to £500, for one chargepoint socket where private off-street parking is available.
- Households that rely on on-street parking may receive 75% of the cost, up to £500, when installing an eligible chargepoint alongside a permanent cross-pavement charging solution. Approval from the relevant local authority must be obtained before applying.
- Eligible residential landlords may receive 75% of the cost, up to £500 per socket, for up to 200 sockets per year across their properties.
- Eligible businesses, charities and public-sector organisations may receive 75% of the cost, up to £500 per socket, for up to 40 sockets across all their sites through the Workplace Charging Scheme.
Eligibility
The installation must be completed by an OZEV-authorised installer using an eligible chargepoint. Depending on the grant, the applicant may also need to own, lease or have ordered an eligible electric vehicle and obtain permission from a landlord, freeholder, property manager or local authority.
How to Apply for the OZEV Grant
Grant applications and any required permissions must be completed before installation begins, as funding cannot normally be claimed retrospectively. Current OZEV residential and workplace chargepoint grants are available until 31 March 2027, subject to eligibility, scheme conditions and available funding.
